Publisher Infini Fun and developer Cyclos have announced Karma Exorcist, an Eastern mythology-themed Metroidvania / side-scrolling action adventure game. It will be available for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, Switch, and PC via Steam. A release date was not announced. A limited-time playtest is currently available for PC.
“Right now, we’re in the later stretch of the production phase,” Cyclos said in the announcement. “Next, we’re going to dive in headfirst and really polish the levels, action, combat, balancing, and all the rest. We know firsthand how brutal it is to make a Metroidvania game, so we’re really hoping you can give us a little more time. We’ll pour everything we’ve got into telling this story of ‘sever karma in the underworld’ the right way.”

Inspired by Chinese mythology, this game presents a fresh interpretation of the underworld: good and evil karma function like an invisible magnetic field, influencing the balance of the Three Realms. When evil karma spreads, disasters follow. To counter this, gods and buddhas gradually established the underworld—with Meng Po Soup (Potion of Oblivion) to erase memories, the Eighteen Levels of Hell to punish guilty souls, and more—all to maintain the cycle of existence.
