As part of two separate Steam promotions, PC gamers can currently claim two vastly different open-world games, Foundry and LivingBattle, completely free of charge. On top of that, there are a couple of additional deals going on right now, making the next few days especially good for picking up free Steam games.
While these free games are available now, it’s worth highlighting that several fantastic premium games are coming to Steam in May as well. Mixtape‘s reviews make it the highest-rated game of the year, and it was just released on May 7. Meanwhile, Directive 8020, Forza Horizon 6, LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight, and 007 First Light release on May 12, May 19, May 22, and May 27, respectively. Still, sometimes free beats premium, and any savings can go a long way in the current economy. With that in mind, two open-world games are worth checking out on Steam since they are free, and there are more to consider beyond that.

Valve offers another chance to order a Steam Controller to anyone who initially missed out, this time with anti-scalper measures in place.
Foundry and LivingBattle are both available for free right now, directly via Steam, via two distinct promotions. Foundry is a Free Weekend game, meaning it is only free for a limited time, while LivingBattle is part of Steam’s Free-to-Keep promotion. Once claimed, it is free to keep forever. The two are at opposite ends of the open-world spectrum, too.
Foundry (Free Weekend)
Foundry is an open-world automation game akin to Satisfactory, in that it features complex automation and factory-building features focused on resource harvesting. It also features an infinite voxel world to ensure that it stands out graphically, plus everything else someone would expect from the genre: co-op support, research and technology trees, certain personalization features, and extensive factories. It is available to download and play for free until May 11 at 10 am PT/1 pm ET, but those who do enjoy it can get a 30% discount through May 14. That makes it $20.99, which is a great deal.

- Additional Discounts After the Promotion Period
LivingBattle (Free-to-Keep Promotion)
Open-world game LivingBattle, meanwhile, is completely free to keep forever. Once it is downloaded, there is no expiration period like Foundry, although there’s a significant quality gap between the two. LivingBattle isn’t going to be for everyone, not even the most diehard open-world fan, but ultimately, free is free. It is an open-world racing game where players must complete missions within a sandy environment, traversed with a handful of vehicles like motorbikes, with the ultimate goal being to complete everything as fast as possible. It’s simplistic, which someone might prefer after dealing with the complex systems found in Foundry.
LivingBattle is 100% free until May 12 at 10 am PT/ 1 pm ET, and anyone who claims it before that time will be able to keep it in their digital libraries forever. No additional charges ($15.99) after that time. However, it will return to the normal price for anyone who doesn’t take part in this free Steam games promotion.
3 More Free Games on Steam (Available Now or Coming Soon)

The Midnight Walkers (Free Weekend)
The Midnight Walkers, for example, is a zombie extraction FPS game that was released in January 2026, and it is currently available as a Free Weekend game like Foundry. Some fans have issues with its content, but a Free Weekend game is a good way to get plenty of feedback. It is available on Steam until May 11 at 10 am PT/1 pm ET, just like Foundry.
The other 2 free Steam games are a little different from everything else mentioned here, with one being a casual space sim and the other being a beloved immersive sim.
Roving Rovers (Free-to-Paid Announcement)
The first is titled Roving Rovers: Australian Rover Challenge 2025, and it’s all about colonizing the moon. However, whereas Steam’s Free-to-Keep Promotion is about premium games going free for a short time, Roving Rovers has been free and will be free until May 13. At that time, it’ll receive its largest content update yet and switch to a paid, premium model. Anyone who claims it before then gets to keep it for free forever, however, so be sure to hop on that ASAP:

Dishonored 2 (LGC Steam Key Drop Event)
Finally, Legion Gaming Community is giving away a Steam Key of Dishonored 2, one of the most iconic immersive sim games on PC. Unlike others listed here, this is part of a Steam Key Giveaway and will only unlock at 9 am PT/12 pm ET on May 13. Players must join a queue at that time and can only claim a Steam Key until LGC runs out completely. After claiming it, fans will need to redeem the Key on Gamesplanet and then redeem the game on Steam. There are a few extra steps, but Dishonored 2 is worth it.
All in all, however, Steam users can claim two open-world games of various complexities, as well as check out a zombie extraction FPS game, pick up a casual sci-fi sim, and have a chance to get a Steam Key for a beloved immersive sim. In other words, that’s quite the haul, so gamers should make sure to snag these up before expiration dates begin dropping.
