Jujutsu Kaisen fans have a massive new release to look forward to very soon. Yesterday, during the June 9 Nintendo Direct, Vampire Survivors developer poncle and Shueisha Games shocked the gaming world. The two companies revealed their latest collaborative effort, Jujutsu Kaisen Rumble: Survivaton.
This brand-new title blends the hit anime franchise with the addictive, survivor-like gameplay of Vampire Survivors. Consequently, players will get to experience a completely fresh battle royale game. The title is officially launching later this year on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.
Unforgiving 8-Player Battle Royale Gameplay
Jujutsu Kaisen Rumble: Survivaton delivers a tense experience with a major multiplayer twist. The core gameplay relies heavily on the classic Vampire Survivors formula. Therefore, your attacks will trigger automatically. You only need to focus on dodging waves of enemies and selecting powerful upgrades.
However, the real chaos happens in the game’s up to 8-player PvP battle royale mode. Players must constantly fight off Cursed Spirits to grow stronger in combat. Meanwhile, you must keep pace with your opponents’ scores. If you slow down, you risk falling behind and losing. Additionally, the game includes a unique Rule Addition mechanic. Once you earn enough points, you can add game-changing rules to actively hinder your opponents’ progress.
When the chaos clears and only two players remain, the match shifts dramatically. The final survivors will face off in a tense 1-vs-1 duel to decide the ultimate winner. This duel mechanic is completely new to the survivor-like genre. Fortunately, if you prefer solo gaming, you can also play the entire game as a single-player experience.
Extensive Roster of Over 20 Jujutsu Kaisen Characters
The world of creator Gege Akutami comes alive in this new adaptation. The game features a vast roster of over 20 fan-favorite characters from Jujutsu Kaisen. Players can control powerful sorcerers like Satoru Gojo, Kento Nanami, and Megumi Fushiguro. Furthermore, every single playable character has a unique playstyle that directly resembles their anime counterpart.
In typical survivor-like fashion, you will not have access to everyone immediately. Instead, you must meet specific in-game conditions to unlock new faces and fill out your roster. Once you hit the battlefield, you will fight the terrifying Cursed Spirits depicted in the anime.
To defeat these spirits, you can unleash iconic anime techniques. Powerful moves like Domain Expansion and Black Flash appear in Survivaton as special skills. You simply need to fill an associated gauge throughout the match to activate them. Even better, these special skills possess the power to affect nearby opponents. As a result, you can damage rival players and AI enemies at the exact same time.
Massive Year For Poncle Continues
This announcement marks another huge milestone for developer poncle. The indie studio originally hit the scene with their breakout hit Vampire Survivors back in 2022, earning numerous award nominations. This year has already been incredibly busy for the studio. They previously released Vampire Crawlers, which acted as a dungeon-crawling successor to their original hit.
Now, poncle is applying that winning formula to an officially licensed anime property. While the developers have not shared a firm release date yet, fans can look forward to hearing more details ahead of the launch later this year.
