Goat Simulator developer Coffee Stain has closed its mobile-focused Malmö studio.

The developer’s VP of mobile Daniel Persson announced on LinkedIn that his role “leading this team has come to an end.”

“Building this office from the ground up has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my career. It started as an idea that grew into an amazing team of talented people. I couldn’t be more proud of what we have accomplished together.”

Coffee Stain Malmö’s website says it has 17 employees. It’s unclear whether the team was laid off or reassigned within Coffee Stain Group. GamesIndustry.biz has requested clarification.

Coffee Stain was spun out from Embracer Group last December. Embracer CEO Phil Rogers called the spin-off a “significant milestone” as the company continues to “streamline and sharpen the focus of its businesses.”

“With a powerful combination of strong IPs, engaged communities, and innovative talent, we are highly confident in Coffee Stain’s future as a standalone company,” said Rogers.

In April 2024, Embracer announced it would be split into three entities: Asmodee Group, Coffee Stain and Friends, and Middle-Earth Enterprises.

Coffee Stain and Friends was subsequently rebranded as Coffee Stain Group, and Middle-Earth Enterprises became Fellowship Entertainment.

Asmodee was spun out from Embracer in February 2025, while Fellowship Entertainment remains within the Embracer Group.
