Modder ‘fromsoftserve’ has just released a fan remaster mod for the PS3 version of Demon’s Souls that PC gamers can experience via RPCS3. So, let’s dive in.

The Demon’s Souls PC Remaster Mod modifies the game’s models to now react to light sources like wall torches and campfires. Moreover, it upgrades armor rendering to use cubemaps. Furthermore, the modder has added normal and specular maps for most surfaces. And, finally, player and object shadows will now blend properly with the baked shadows.

This demo version covers the first two tutorial levels. Fromsoftserve plans to overhaul the remaining areas via future updates. So, make sure to keep that in mind while trying it. This is a demo and not the final version.

Nevertheless, I’m certain a lot of Demon’s Souls fans will want to give it a go. If you are one of them, you can go ahead and download it from this link. If, on the other hand, you don’t have enough free time, you can watch the following video. This video will give a pretty good idea of the visual enhancements the modder has brought. I’ve also included three comparison shots.

In case his nickname rings any bells, fromsoftserve is the modder behind the Bloodborne PC Fan Remaster. His mod is pretty much a must for those who want to experience Bloodborne on PC. As such, I’m certain that once this mod is complete, it will be a must-have for experiencing Demon’s Souls on PC.

Demon’s Souls and Bloodborne are the only Souls games from FromSoftware that have not been released on PC. Thanks to these two mods and console emulation, though, PC gamers can now experience them on PC. This is one of the strongest features of PC gaming.

Have fun and stay tuned for more!

John is the founder and Editor in Chief at DSOGaming.
