But, thankfully, there are some amazing indie adventure games on the way that will make us feel like the bravest of explorers. Whether you\u2019re performing epic tricks on a BMX bike, gliding across the sky on a broomstick, or making new friends at summer camp, these 10 upcoming indies have us super excited to go on new adventures all throughout 2026.<\/p>\n<p>In our list below, you\u2019ll find something no matter your taste. There\u2019s the gorgeous TANUKI: Pon\u2019s Summer, casting you as an adorable tanuki. Or if you\u2019re a Moomins fan, you\u2019ll undoubtedly want to keep your eyes out for the sequel to Snufkin: Melody of Moominvalley, Moomintroll: Winter\u2019s Warmth, which is set to launch in April.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">1. Developed by Denkiworks, TANUKI: Pon\u2019s Summer is a casual open world adventure where you take on the role of a tanuki named Pon, a part-time worker at the post office in his home town.<\/p>\n<p>Pon\u2019s job is to deliver mail and packages to folks around town and, as you can imagine, he gets up to some antics along the way. You may find yourself learning sumo wrestling, helping out at a local restaurant or assisting a photographer with getting pictures of some beautiful local shrines. And, of course, you\u2019ll be traveling on your bike and performing epic moves for high scores as the town prepares for a big festival.<\/p>\n<p>TANUKI: Pon\u2019s Summer doesn\u2019t have a release date just yet, but a recent dev blog on its Steam page announced that it is intended for release sometime in 2026.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">2. Moomintroll: Winter\u2019s Warmth<\/h2>\n<p>Image: Hyper Games<\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Release date: 27th April 2026<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Coming to Switch, Switch 2 and PC.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Speaking of adorable creatures, Moomintroll: Winter\u2019s Warmth is also on its way. Created by Finnish-Swedish author and illustrator Tove Jansson, the Moomin franchise has gained a significant and loyal following since its very first book launched back in 1945. And now, developer Hyper Games has created two adorable adventures to allow players to dive into this beloved universe themselves \u2013 Snufkin: Melody of Moominvalley from 2024, which we absolutely loved, and the upcoming Moomintroll: Winter\u2019s Warmth.<\/p>\n<p>In Moomintroll: Winter\u2019s Warmth, you play as the titular Moomintroll after he wakes up from his winter hibernation to find that Moominvalley has been absolutely covered in snow. Wander through Nordic-inspired landscapes in search of help while finding old and new friends along the way. Whether you\u2019re a lifelong Moomin fan or you\u2019re brand new to the series, Moomintroll: Winter\u2019s Warmth is shaping up to be a fantastic new entry into the series.<\/p>\n<p>You can read our preview to get a taste of what to expect.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">3. Danchi Days takes place over five chapters and follows the story of a young girl named Hoshino and her grandmother who is suffering from Alzheimer\u2019s. You\u2019ll meet a whole host of unique characters as Hoshino explores her \u2018danchi\u2019, which translates to a mass housing complex.<\/p>\n<p>Danchi Days will have you completing a variety of fun mini-games. Eat an egg on a hot metal slide, play in the mud with a neighbour, maybe get a little too intimate with a toilet as you listen to the sounds it\u2019s making \u2013 do whatever it takes to curb Hoshino\u2019s curiosity.  However, things aren\u2019t all happy in the danchi: some people don\u2019t exactly see the community as a positive and fun place. Discover alongside Hoshino how she\u2019ll face the many challenges ahead of her in this unique comedy adventure.<\/p>\n<p>Danchi Days doesn\u2019t have a concrete release date yet, but it is set for launch in 2026. Like many open world adventures, you\u2019ll start by gathering resources, befriending the local fauna, learning spells and defeating aggressive creatures in battle.<\/p>\n<p>Customise your experience by trying on different outfits, using an ability tree to level up, and crafting unique items for your home. But all witches and wizards know that there is always darkness hiding beneath the surface. Discover the secrets of the corrupted spirits that live in the shadows waiting for their chance to attack.<\/p>\n<p>Witchspire heads to early access via Steam later this year. Players can expect the final version to include a larger world with a variety of new lore, creatures and spells to uncover. In Find Your Words, you play as a child on their very first trip to summer camp where new friendships, wildlife and fun await. Meet with other campers, each with their own unique personalities and stories, and unlock their quirks the more time you spend with them.<\/p>\n<p>Collect symbols that will help you with communicating with your friends. Keep them in your binder and combine them together to create unique meanings, allowing you to find new ways to invite your friends to play with you. In the game you drive a pick up truck through the gorgeous countryside. Things seem peaceful enough as you begin helping local folks with errands, driving back and forth between villages, but there\u2019s a dark presence in the forest that doesn\u2019t seem to want you there.<\/p>\n<p>Upgrade your truck using your rewards to allow for more carrying capacity or easier traversal through difficult terrain. Pack your truck bed full of different kinds of cargo, some fragile that will require careful driving or some cold that demand a quick delivery. Learn the roads, protect your cargo and don\u2019t forget to keep one eye in the rear view for things that might be lurking in the trees.<\/p>\n<p>You can give Truckful a try for yourself thanks to the demo available on Steam.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">7. Phonopolis is a hand-drawn puzzle adventure from developer Amanita Design with quite an extensive story to uncover. Phonopolis is a dystopian city where citizens must work together to achieve their authoritarian leader\u2019s many demands. You play as Felix, a young dustman who seems to be the only one to recognise the threat that this leader poses to his home.<\/p>\n<p>Venture through a 3D world made of cardboard, manipulating the leaders\u2019 loudspeakers to solve puzzles. Move walls, control machinery, tear paper curtains and more as you tackle the many challenges the game will throw at you. While the game covers some intense topics, it is overall playful and intended to be lighthearted and fun.<\/p>\n<p>Amanita Design has taken inspiration from avant-garde artist trends for their title and you\u2019ll be able to see the stunning hand-painting world in action later this year. Wax Heads<\/h2>\n<p>Image: Patattie Games<\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Release date: 5th May 2026<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Coming to PS5, Xbox Series X\/S, Switch and PC<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>And now it\u2019s time to calm things down with some cosy punk, and Wax Heads from developer Patattie Games is just the thing. While it\u2019s not <em>strictly <\/em>an adventure game, we couldn\u2019t resist including it. More of a casual sim, Wax Heads places you as a sales assistant in a struggling record store where your job is to, well, do your job! Interact with customers, explore your collection, and bond with your colleagues as you all try to use your passion for music to help the store get its groove back.<\/p>\n<p>Wax Heads isn\u2019t just a narrative-focused adventure; you\u2019ll also be able to solve puzzles while you search for the perfect music for a customer, scroll social media and read up on the history of some of the world\u2019s most interesting bands. The game features 80+ hand-drawn albums and they each include their own history. In the game you play as space cub Jobert who is on the very important quest to find the perfect houseplant, and he\u2019ll do anything to get it. He doesn\u2019t even seem to care that the cosmos and stars are in grave danger.<\/p>\n<p>But if he must, he\u2019ll help people on his journey to find a houseplant, since it would be inconvenient for him otherwise. The game uses classic turn-based JRPG combat as its foundation, and when you\u2019re not fighting, you\u2019ll explore the world, make friends and a whole lot more. It\u2019s all presented in an adorable 90s JRPG-style and we simply can\u2019t wait to find out if Jobert manages to get that houseplant.<\/p>\n<p>Petrichor is set for a 2026 PC release, and you play the demo on Steam now.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">10. How about a wild and wacky adventure where you control an entire train car and perform amazing tricks all with the goal of defeating a sinister corporation? That\u2019s Denshattack! from developer Undercoders. Trick and grind your way through a colourful Japanese dystopia alongside a rebellious group of outcasts in this 3D platformer.<\/p>\n<p>Denshattack! isn\u2019t just about performing tricks; it\u2019s also about making a name for yourself and gaining reputation. Face off against other crazy trains and gain respect among the underground network of gangs in order to become a master Denshattacker.
