This domestic bliss saw the conception and birth of Melinoe, giving Zagreus a sister, but peace didn’t last long: Chronos, the Titan of Time and father to many of the Olympians, has returned to revenge himself on the gods for their treatment of him. He imprisons Zagreus, Hades, and Persephone, and takes over the underworld, but Melinoe is safely evacuated by Hecate, renowned sorceress, who raises the former to become a deadly witch-warrior. This is where Hades 2 kicks off, when Melinoe is an experienced and versatile fighter, with an unbreakable conviction to bring death to Chronos.

                    Related

Hades 2: Every Hidden Aspect’s Mythology, Explained

The hidden weapon aspects in Hades 2 take deep dives into mythology well beyond the Greek canon.

Hades 2 Is a Better, Harder-Hitting Version of Hades 1

It’s not often that you can look at a sequel and conclude that it’s an improvement in just about every way. Even sequels that I think are generally pretty great, like God of War Ragnarok, are often more additive than transformative. Hades 2 is a special case, in that it feels like a natural progression from the first game, but is rebuilt to be more addicting, compelling, mechanically deep, and surprising.

Find all 10 pairs

              Start

          Restart
Back

Find all 10 pairs

Start

RestartBack

Melinoe is a much smoother and more capable fighter than Zagreus, able to sprint and even move while attacking depending on what weapon she’s using—two abilities that set her a world apart from her brother on their own. Then you have Melinoe’s Nocturnal Arms, none of which feel like copy-paste versions of Hades 1’s weapons. Some of my personal favorites include the Umbral Flames, two torch-like staves that shoot projectiles and AOE attacks, and the Black Coat, a back-mounted rocket launcher with matching gauntlets.

Storytelling is top-notch as usual, although the narrative this time around is a bit more mind-mending due to its time-focused plot—it almost feels adjacent to science-fiction at times. The Crossroads, which is Hades 2’s replacement for the House of Hades hub area, is more visually diverse, richer in detail, and packed with more secrets and features as well. For instance, you can unlock the ability to fish and visit hot springs with NPCs to bond, rather than just drinking with them like in Hades 1.

When Is Hades 2 Coming to Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5?

Hades 2 lands on Xbox Series X|S and PS5 on April 14, 2026. While its exact MSRP hasn’t been announced, it will likely retail for $29.99, as that’s what it’s listed at on other platforms. Unfortunately, it will not be released on PlayStation 4 or Xbox One, unlike its the first Hades.

Is Hades 2 Getting Bonus Content on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S?

According to Supergiant Games, Hades 2’s PS5 and Xbox Series X|S port will include the following features:

                                        120 frames-per-second

                                        New quality of life improvements

                                        “Bonus content”

As you can imagine, this mysterious bonus content is what has Hades 2 fans most excited, especially since it will be made available on all other versions of the game as well. For better or worse, the developer has remained close-lipped about what exactly this bonus content will entail, but the Hades 2 console release trailer offers at least one hint: Heracles, an NPC who is typically encountered during runs, is depicted as dripping wet, indicating that he may be eligible for one of the hot springs conversations reserved primarily, but not exclusively, for romance options.

Naturally, this has led some to speculate that Heracles will join the elite ranks of Hades 2’s love interests, which would be quite an interesting turn for the character indeed. I wouldn’t rule this out, but it’s worth noting that this illustration of Heracles in the trailer features a background consistent with an in-run location, not the Crossroads where the hot springs are located. This might mean that, rather than bonding with Heracles at the Crossroads, you’ll bond with him here. I don’t want to spoil anything, but suffice to say that this could indicate partying with another god as well.

Regardless of what new content comes to Hades 2 alongside its Xbox and PlayStation release, more gamers getting the chance to experience this masterful roguelike is great. If you haven’t jumped into Hades 2 yet, this might be your best chance so far. But be warned: you should probably beat Hades 1 first, as there’s no going back once you get a taste of the sequel.

                                        Systems

                                            Released

         September 25, 2025

                                            ESRB

Teen / Alcohol Reference, Blood, Mild Language, Suggestive Themes, Violence

Much like its predecessor, Hades 2 is coming to Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5 following its release on Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2, and before that, on PC exclusively.
