Prime Video Mass Effect TV series co-showrunner, Daniel Casey, has stepped in to respond to a report that suggested the upcoming adaptation had recently undergone rewrites to be \u201cmore appealing to non-gamers.\u201d<\/p>\n

Fans of the BioWare video game franchise expressed concern after a The Ankler report said that Amazon MGM Studios head of global TV, Peter Friedlander, had requested the show cater more to a new audience earlier this month. While it also came with the news that the show was \u201con the verge of a series order,\u201d most of those familiar with the series were more afraid about what such a claim could mean for the future of Mass Effect.<\/p>\n

Now, as spotted by @WeAreMassEffect on X\/Twitter, the project\u2019s co-showrunner has taken to Bluesky to clear the air. Casey stops short of going into too much detail, but he, at least, hasn\u2019t heard anything about writing for “non-gamers.”<\/p>\n

\u201cSo, I can\u2019t talk about the specifics of what I\u2019m writing (I\u2019ve signed NDAs, etc) \u2014 but for whatever it\u2019s worth, that article by the Ankler caught me off guard just as much as you,\u201d Casey said. \u201cI don\u2019t know where that \u2018non-gaming audiences\u2019 quote came from or who said it, but at no point has that been said to me.\u201d<\/p>\n

Prime Video hasn\u2019t said much about Mass Effect yet. The project officially entered development in 2024, with filming later set to begin in late 2026. In November of last year, Mass Effect boss Mike Gamble shared that BioWare has been working closely with Amazon, with plans to tell a story set after the events of the main trilogy.<\/p>\n

“The writers room is going strong, and we\u2019ve got a lot figured out about how it fits within the Mass Effect canon, and where it sits in respect to the new game,\u201d he said at the time. “The show will explore a brand-new story within the universe\u2019s timeline, and will be set after the original trilogy. It won\u2019t be a retread of Commander Shepard\u2019s story \u2013 because after all \u2026 that\u2019s YOUR story, isn\u2019t it?”<\/p>\n
