Even the slower months have had big hitters and hidden gems. May 2026 is no exception. The Top 5 were pretty clear cut when looking at potential contenders. Our runner-up this month is the first LEGO franchise game in a while: LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight. Without further ado, here are the Top 5 Upcoming Video Games May 2026.

5. Directive 8020 – May 12

Directive 8020 is the latest “interactive drama” from Supermassive Games. It’s being included in the hit and miss Dark Pictures Anthology series. But from advance reports, it might function more as a spiritual successor to Until Dawn and The Quarry. Those horror titles are arguably the most successful forms that Supermassive’s Choose Your Own Adventure-style narrative horror dramas have taken. Directive 8020 will be the series’ first sci-fi narrative. It will be available for PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.

4. Zero Parades: For Dead Spies – May 21

Zero Parades: For Dead Spies is a narrative-heavy CRPG. It’s developed by much of the team that created the ultra-beloved Disco Elysium. The game promises the same old school isometric POV as its predecessor. There probably isn’t going to be any combat. Instead, progression and gameplay are done through conversations with tons of dialogue trees. Zero Parades: For Dead Spies is an easy inclusion in the Top 5 Upcoming Video Games May 2026, because Disco Elysium is so beloved. It will be a PC exclusive, but has a PS5 release planned later in the year.

3. 007 First Light – May 27

007 First Light is a brand new James Bond first person shooter. Sony has been pushing the game really hard. It looks like they’re heavily relying on people’s nostalgia for the N64 classic GoldenEye 007. 007 First Light is by the same developers behind the Hitman games. If it was a comeback game from former Rare employees, it might’ve ranked higher on the Top 5 Upcoming Video Games May 2026. 007 First Light will be available for PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC at launch, with a Switch 2 port later in the year.

2. Forza Horizon 6 – May 19

Forza Horizon 6 is the sequel to Forza Horizon 5, which is many players’ favorite racing game of all-time. The Forza games are the perfect blend of arcade and sim racing. The open world this time is based on Tokyo. Racing games don’t get more anticipated than this, and Forza Horizon 6 easily could’ve been the #1 game on the Top 5 Upcoming Video Games May 2026. It will be available for Xbox Series X/S and PC, with a PS5 port later this year.

1. Yoshi and the Mysterious Book – May 21

Unfortunately for Forza, Nintendo has a new Yoshi platform title in the form of Yoshi and the Mysterious Book. It’s the ninth installment in the Yoshi series, and continues the gameplay of the other games. Hopefully its quality is closer to the depth of Super Mario Bros. Wonder, and less like the simplicity of Princess Peach: Showtime. First party Nintendo platformers are obvious contenders for the top spot on articles like the Top 5 Upcoming Video Games May 2026. Yoshi and the Mysterious Book will be a Switch 2 exclusive.

Do you agree with our choices? Which game from May 2026 are you most excited for?
