After more than a decade, Call of Duty is returning to Nintendo consoles. Microsoft is delivering on its promise to bring the FPS series to other platforms, and that begins when the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 release date arrives. With Captain Price and Task Force 141 on the hunt for revenge, it’s bound to be one of the most explosive entries so far.
If you’re wondering when MW4 is coming out, what platform it’s on, or if you can see any gameplay, then you’re in the right place.
What is the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 release date?
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 will launch on Friday, October 23, 2026. This is confirmed in an official YouTube stream showcasing the game’s setting, familiar faces, and a hint of gameplay. It’s about time to bring the giant franchise back to Nintendo’s devices, considering that the last COD game on a Nintendo console was 2013’s Call of Duty: Ghosts on the Wii U, of all things.
This entry sees you play as Private Park, as part of a North Korean invasion. The game’s campaign heads to New York, Paris, Mumbai, but has a new main setting: Korea. This reveal was part of the leaks and rumors that surrounded the game weeks before its first trailer, as a post showing off billbil-kun’s blurred, leaked cover of the latest Modern Warfare game got a comment suggesting that this “should be the first CoD game on Nintendo Switch 2”. NatetheHate actually replied to this, saying “Yes”, and now it’s another positive prediction on his part.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 platforms
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 will launch on Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. This also includes handheld PCs such as the Xbox ROG Ally and Lenovo Legion Go. While Microsoft is pretty vocal about supporting Asus’ hardware, we’re not sure how it will fare on Valve’s Steam Deck just yet.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 story
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 picks up in the aftermath of the shocking events of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 (2023), where Task Force 141 lost a beloved ally, and Captain Price went rogue to continue his pursuit of Vladimir Makarov. With the conflict spreading to Korea, Paris, New York City, and other locations around the world, the battle is going global to avenge a fallen Task Force 141 comrade.
Now, this isn’t to be confused with Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, which came out on the Nintendo DS in 2007; this is a fourth entry into the Modern Warfare series, separate from that.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 multiplayer
Yes, Modern Warfare 4 brings another suite of multiplayer modes to play. We expect the usual playlists of Team Deathmatch, Free For All, Search and Destroy, and Headquarters to return. However, you won’t find a Zombies mode in Modern Warfare 4.
While Modern Warfare 3 was the first entry in the Modern Warfare series to bring Zombies across from Treyarch and Sledgehammer Games’ instalments, it won’t be returning here. Instead, you can look forward to an overhaul of DMZ, the extraction mode Infinity Ward debuted in Modern Warfare 2 (2022).
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 trailer
The first trailer for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 opens with South Korean soldiers on patrol in Seoul before chaos erupts as North Korea launches a full-scale invasion. Meanwhile, Captain Price returns after the events of Modern Warfare 3 (2023), but this time he is a fugitive. Operating from the shadows and still obsessed with hunting Vladimir Makarov, Price wages his own personal war while avoiding the authorities pursuing him.
Brief glimpses suggest that his path will intersect with the larger conflict engulfing the Korean Peninsula. The trailer showcases massive urban battles in Seoul, missile strikes, tank assaults, and special forces operations. It also teases missions set beyond Korea, with flashes of New York, Paris, and Mumbai, hinting at a worldwide conflict.
And that’s everything you need to know about the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 release date.
