It has been reported that Microsoft might further shake up Xbox Game Pass with new tiers of the service, and now one of them may have been revealed.

X user @redphx (via Windows Central) discovered references to something called “Triton,” and it is said to be the name of a new tier of Game Pass that would only include first-party games from Xbox Game Studios. This could include games like Doom Eternal, Dishonored 2, Fallout 4, Halo 5, The Elder Scrolls Online, and State of Decay 2, among others. It’s unclear if the supposed new Game Pass tier would include all first-party Xbox games or only some specific selection of them.

It’s also possible Triton is an experiment and isn’t planned for release at all. There is not much to go on at this stage, so the possible price, release timing, or other specifics are not available. GameSpot has contacted Microsoft seeking clarification.

Before this, it was reported that Microsoft could merge Xbox Game Pass Premium and PC Game Pass and that Microsoft could look to bundle more third-party services into Game Pass to help drive people to subscribe. Some of these today include EA Play, Fortnite Crew, and Ubisoft+ Classics for Xbox Game Pass Ultimate.

There are also rumors of a free Xbox Cloud Gaming offering (in exchange for ads), but the latest report said it will not be its own separate Game Pass tier.

Microsoft is not planning any major changes to Xbox Game Pass in 2026, a report from February 2026 said. However, this was before Asha Sharma took over for Phil Spencer as the new Microsoft Gaming CEO.

In October 2025, Microsoft raised Game Pass prices, with Game Pass Ultimate going up by a whopping 50% to $30/month. Game Pass Premium, meanwhile, costs $15/month, while Game Pass Essential goes for $10/month. PC Game Pass costs $16.50 per month.

A recent report said Sharma is trying to make Game Pass “more enticing to a broader range of customers,” and that reportedly includes offering “lower-priced tiers.”

She took over for Spencer on February 23, and one of her first moves was to kill the “This is an Xbox” marketing campaign. Microsoft said this was part of Sharma’s effort to lead a “reset” of how Xbox shows up as a brand.

On the subject of Game Pass, Netflix co-CEO Greg Peters recently said he and Sharma have “kicked around ideas” for how Netflix and Xbox could work together on subscription bundles. Nothing has been confirmed, but Peters said he “wouldn’t eliminate any possibilities.”

Peters also said what may Xbox fans believe, and that is that even Microsoft is “still trying to figure out how to make the Game Pass bundle work.”

Game Pass launched in June 2017, so it’s coming up on its ninth anniversary. It’s changed and grown a lot since then, and one of the key pieces of feedback is that it’s become confusing with its numerous different tiers that offer different games and perks.
