The team behind the best PlayStation 3 emulator, RPCS3, has released a brand new version of it. Moreover, the team has shared the official 2026 PC requirements for it. So, let’s take a look at them, shall we?

To run the emulator, PC gamers will at least need an Intel Core 2 Duo or an AMD Athlon 64 X2 with 8GB of RAM and an NVIDIA GT 420, an Intel Arc310, or an AMD Radeon HD 5450.

To get a gaming experience similar to that of a PS3, you will need an AMD Ryzen 5 5600 or an Intel Core i5 10400 with 16GB of RAM and an NVIDIA RTX 2060 or an AMD Radeon RX 5600XT.

For optimal gaming, you will need an AMD Ryzen 5 9600X or an Intel Core i5 13600K with 16GB of RAM and an NVIDIA RTX 2060 or an AMD Radeon RX 5600XT. The team also recommends using an NVMe SSD. With this PC setup, you will run the PS3 games better than the real PlayStation 3 console.

Finally, for gaming at 4K, you will need an AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D with 16GB of RAM and an NVIDIA RTX 4070 or an AMD Radeon RX 7800XT.

As you can see, the CPU requirements are the most important thing when it comes to emulation. This shouldn’t come as a big surprise for those who have experimented with emulators in the past. From MAME to ePSXe and Yuzu, the most important component is always the CPU.

As the RPCS3 noted, the biggest challenge with emulating PS3 is its Cell CPU, which has 2 ISAs (PPC+SIMD) inside the same chip and 8 cores. So, the order of importance is: CPU > OS > RAM > GPU.

This is exactly what I said in my previous article. Yes, you can run numerous PS3 games with 60FPS on a high-end PC, equipped with an NVIDIA RTX 5090. But to get framerates over 100FPS without Smooth Motion, you will need a really powerful CPU.

You can go ahead and download the latest version of RPCS3 from its official website. YouTube’s ‘Video Game Esoterica‘ has also shared a video based on this version. In this video, he shows a few games running on it. Sadly, he did not include some must-have PS3-only games like Gran Turismo 5, God of War 3, or Motorstorm. So, that’s kind of a bummer. Since this version also came out today, I could not find any videos from other people that covered these games.

Nevertheless, this is great news for all those who want to experiment with RPCS3 on PC.

    Have fun!

John loved – and still does – the 16-bit consoles, and considers SNES to be one of the best consoles. Still, the PC platform won him over consoles. That was mainly due to 3DFX and its iconic dedicated 3D accelerator graphics card, Voodoo 2. John has also written a higher degree thesis on the “The Evolution of PC graphics cards.”
