Screen Juice, the gaming studio behind the hack-and-slash roguelite Morbid Metal, released its 2026 roadmap for the title a few days ago, and there is a lot coming for players waiting to see what is next for the early access action title. Across the rest of 2026, the game will see four major updates.

Here’s What’s in Store for Morbid Metal

The first major update arrives on May 21, 2026, and it already looks like a meaty one. This update will overhaul enemy systems, add new sub-biomes to explore, and bring a dedicated Steam Deck version.

That last part is big news for handheld players, especially since this does not look like a simple compatibility checkbox. A dedicated handheld build means the team is serious about getting the game to run the best it can on Valve’s handheld. Morbid Metal already ran decently on the Steam Deck, but more optimization is always welcome, especially since other PC handhelds could benefit from those improvements as well.

You can see this in action in the trailer released alongside the roadmap.

After that, Major Update #2 is planned for early summer 2026. This update will add new temporary upgrades, new permanent upgrades, a combo system update, and aura farming. For a game built around fast movement, real-time character swapping, and high-damage combat chains, improving the combo system could end up being one of the more important updates on the roadmap.

Major Update #3 is planned for late summer 2026 and will expand the game even further with new paths in the Void, minigames, and a new hero to unlock. Then, in fall 2026, Screen Juice plans to roll out more cinematics, more enemies and boss fights, more lore and loot, and, yes, more metal.

For those who are not familiar with Morbid Metal, it is a hack-and-slash roguelite where you play as the last AI, trapped in a post-apocalyptic simulation by a mysterious Operator. Your mission is to take down rogue AIs, uncover humanity’s downfall, and transcend.

What makes Morbid Metal stand out is its real-time shapeshifting between three characters: Flux, Ekku, and Vekta. Each has their own moveset and skills, and players can chain them together mid-combat for stylish, high-damage combos. Think Devil May Cry style-ranking DNA fused with a roguelite loop where death is not the end, just the reset.

Developed by Screen Juice and published by Ubisoft, Morbid Metal is currently in Early Access on Steam with a Very Positive rating. There’s also a demo available to play on Steam, so go check it out if you haven’t already.
