May is here, and so far, two major games have squeaked out at the end of April for PS5 players to get into. There’s the roguelike shooter Saros, along with NTE, or Neverness to Everness, which is an open-world action RPG and also free to play. Those two releases should keep PS5 players satisfied until the next blockbusters come out, which shouldn’t be long, as the PS5’s May 2026 lineup includes some huge games.

If you’re an FPS fan and need some new action on your PS5, try these quality shooters that feel great on console.

There’s something for everyone in May, including a horror game like Directive 8020, the return of a classic like Darksiders: Warmastered Edition, and LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight, which looks like it could give the Arkham games a run for their money. Let’s get into why these games are exciting and what other games PS5 players have to look forward to.

    Directive 8020 (May 12)

    A Horror Game In Space

Directive 8020 is the upcoming game from Supermassive Games, which has been doing the interactive horror schtick since 2015’s Until Dawn. Their last original game, not based on a license, was 2022’s The Quarry, so it has been a while. Directive 8020 is set in space aboard a ship, wherein players will switch between five characters as the chapters move on.

Players will have minimal actions with each character, including walking around and solving small puzzles. Still, the most interactive features in the game are the quick-time events and the dialogue choices. Every character can die, thus shaping the story dramatically, and PS5 players can get their scares on the 12th.

    Darksiders: Warmastered Edition (May 19)

    Bringing Doom Back To Zelda

Darksiders premiered in 2010 on the PC, PS3, and Xbox 360, with the remastered Darksiders: Warmastered Edition launching first in 2016. The latest port of that version was on the Switch in 2019, so it has been a while, and the newer consoles do deserve one of the most underrated action-adventure games of all time, which will appeal to Zelda fans.

Set during the apocalypse, players assume the role of one of the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse, War. On Earth, he will battle angels and demons alike as he tries to understand what triggered the apocalypse early. Players can get upgrades and gadgets in dungeons to help with traversal, including a Portal-like device, along with a giant sword to slash enemies. Anyone who missed it over the past ten-plus years should check out the latest version on the 19th on the PS5.

    3

    Gallipoli (May 21)

The World War 1 Assault Continues

Gallipoli is a World War 1 game set during the Battle of Gallipoli in 1915. This historic battle was when the Allies tried to fight back against the Ottoman Empire and reclaim land. The developer, BlackMill Games, has been quietly making some of the best World War 1 multiplayer games of all time, starting in 2015 with Verdun.

Tannenberg and Isonzo followed, and Gallipoli will be the next edition. Players can assume the game will feature the same action as the previous three titles, including first-person shooting gameplay involving era-appropriate pistols, rifles, and grenades. As has always been the case with BlackMill’s games, Gallipoli will emphasize realism and authenticity, all the while providing tactical squad-based multiplayer action.

    4

    Starbites (May 21)

    A Turn-Based Mecha JRPG

Starbites is being developed by the relatively obscure IKINAGAMES, but NIS America is publishing it, and they know a thing or two about niche RPGs. The game looks like a cross between the Wild Arms series, as it is set on a dusty desert planet, and Xenogears, as the characters have mechs.

Some characters actually have futuristic bikes as well and use guns during combat, but overall, this is a mech-forward JRPG. Combat is turn-based, players can attack normally or use skills, and outside of battle, there are some customization options for the mechs. Starbites will launch on the 21st on the PS5 and several other systems, so anyone craving that next good mech game won’t have to wait long.

    5

Lego Batman: Legacy Of The Dark Knight (May 22)

Back And Bolder Than Ever Before

LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight is an upcoming open-world game set in Gotham, which appears to be the biggest Batman game ever. Players can punch enemies, use gadgets, glide around Gotham, and even drive various vehicles like the Batmobile and a separate motorcycle.

Based on footage shown so far, the game will take into account media from all Batman walks of life, including the film versions like The Dark Knight, but it won’t be a direct adaptation like a lot of LEGO games, including the Star Wars ones. The last Batman-based LEGO game was technically LEGO DC Super-Villains in 2018, but the last real one was 2017’s The LEGO Batman Movie Game, an endless runner released on mobile devices. Eager LEGO fans who have been anticipating it can be happy once the 22nd rolls around.

    6

    007 First Light (May 27)

    Shaken, Not Stirred

007 First Light is another game that has been a long time coming, as it has been in development for a while; however, for Bond gaming fans, a lifetime has passed since they got to control the world’s most famous spy, with 007 Legends in 2012. 007 First Light is an original story that will take a look at a younger James Bond who is rough around the edges. It’s being developed by IO Interactive, who previously worked on the Hitman games.

These PS5 games are about more than just combat and explosions, offering so much variety that it feels like you can do basically anything.

Despite the developer’s pedigree, 007 First Light doesn’t seem to incorporate the open sandboxes of the Hitman games, instead prioritizing linear levels that feature both stealth and action. Still, we should expect the typical Bond antics, such as big set pieces and open-ended gameplay, whether that means using a disguise, gadgets, or good old gunplay to get the job done. They can finally get their hands on 007 First Light on the 27th.

    7

Story Of Seasons: Grand Bazaar (May 28)

    A Cozy Life Sim

Story of Seasons: Grand Bazaar is the latest addition to the Story of Seasons franchise, which originally released in 2025 on PC and Switch systems. It’s a life-sim game similar to Stardew Valley, wherein players can tend to their farmstead, including growing crops and raising cattle.

The biggest feature of the game is advertised in the name, as players can take their wares to try and get a good price for them at a rotating bazaar, and getting the best deal can often be tricky. Also, there are rare materials for players to get, so it’s not all about making a profit. PS5 players looking for something more chill to play at the end of the month, on the 28th, should look into it.

    8

    Wandering Sword (May 28)

    Octopath Samurai

If RPG fans thought Wandering Sword looked like a Square Enix game, they wouldn’t be too far off. The game uses a similar HD-2D style as Octopath Traveler, and between visuals and game, it and Wandering Sword have a lot in common, with the tone being the major difference.

The game is a Wuxia-inspired turn-based RPG set in a more fantastical version of ancient China. Players can form their party, march across the world, fight armies in combat with flashy moves, and so on. The game originally launched on Steam in 2023, and PS5 players can pick it up on the 28th for anyone looking for a more old-school RPG experience.
