There are already tons of games about death, but Felix the Reaper presents a unique spin on it. Instead of horror, gore, or grim-dark misery, the puzzle game turns death into a dancing office worker who works for the Ministry of Death!

Developed by Kong Orange and published by Daedalic Entertainment, the game first launched on PC and consoles in October 2019. With a strange personality and art direction, the game’s identity came from historical depictions of death, especially Danse Macabre and Death And The Maiden.

What does Felix the Reaper do?

He spends his days setting up bizarre fatal accidents while avoiding sunlight. His entire job is making sure certain people die exactly when they’re supposed to.

Every level plays out on floating landmasses built on a grid system. The main rule is that Felix can only move through shadows. If he steps into sunlight, it’s over for him because light belongs to life, not death.

The game revolves around manipulating shadows, rotating the sun, moving objects around, and creating safe paths. These help Felix reach his targets without getting blasted by daylight.

The game keeps repeating three basic rules. Stick to the shadows. Control the shadows. Make sure people die. That last part involves arranging elaborate accidents that kill NPCs in ways that are both gruesome and weirdly funny.

According to the developers and publishers, Felix the Reaper mixes together ideas from Hitman Go, Monument Valley, and Sokoban. The full game is split into five chapters with up to six levels each. There are also time trials and hardcore levels unlocked later.

Dance is the main element here

Felix is constantly dancing through levels like he’s trapped inside his own spooky music video. The soundtrack pulls music from more than 10 indie artists. You can enjoy the strange music choices while Felix grooves around, preparing accidental deaths.

Felix the Reaper is now available for pre-registration on the Google Play Store.
