Tomb Raider: Legacy Of Atlantis

Upon announcement, Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis, a remake of the very first game in the series, was expected to launch this year, while the next mainline chapter by Crystal Dynamics, Tomb Raider: Catalyst, was teased as a 2027 release. Unsurprisingly for the industry, things didn’t go according to plan. Early in June, it was confirmed that Legacy of Atlantis would release in February next year instead. As for Catalyst, nothing new has been shown about the project so far, so Lara Croft fans may get two games in the same year. Of course, at this point, a delay for Catalyst also seems quite likely.
Legacy of Atlantis is teased as a new, UE5-powered faithful remake of the 1996 Tomb Raider. Alongside the upcoming Halo: Campaign Evolved, it’s a rare case of a video game receiving two remakes (the first being Tomb Raider: Anniversary). The game is described as both a faithful and modern version of the genre-defining action-adventure classic, featuring jaw-dropping visuals, modern game design, and new surprises for veterans of the series, while serving as an introduction to the next era of Tomb Raider titles.

Probably the most obvious delay impacted by GTA 6 is Fable’s move from its autumn launch window to February 2027. This seems like a smart move by Microsoft, especially given how many first-party titles from Xbox Studios are coming this fall already. As it stands, Fable has a chance to truly shine early next year, especially since Playground already delivered this year with Forza Horizon 6. Coming off Fable’s impressive 30-minute demo showcase, it’s easy to get excited. This game definitely looks like it’s shaping up to be a truly next-gen RPG and a major step forward for the iconic series.

Meanwhile, the developers of Lords of the Fallen 2 at CI Games have announced that the title is moving away from the busy fall 2026 window, meaning LotF 2 will launch in Q1 2027 instead.
Of course, all things considered, it seems like a pretty wise move. It grants extra time for polish while avoiding other sword-wielding action games in the upcoming season, including Onimusha: Way of the Sword and Phantom Blade Zero. Following the recent action-packed trailers with stunning UE5 visuals, excitement surrounding Lords of the Fallen 2 has definitely been on the rise. Now, this one is more of an expected slip rather than a full-fledged delay like the rest of the games on this list. Announced at The Game Awards in December 2023, Exodus instantly garnered a reputation as Mass Effect’s spiritual successor, promising a rich new sci-fi universe filled with intriguing characters, races, and mysteries. Earlier, publisher Wizards of the Coast teased that the anticipated sci-fi action-RPG would launch sometime in 2026. However, the team at Archetype Entertainment has since ironed out its schedule, announcing that Exodus is coming in early 2027, targeting the Q1 period (our bet is February).

However, after the recent beta, developer Nine Dots Studio announced a last-minute delay for the project based on fan feedback. According to the team, it became clear to them that Outward 2 just isn’t where it should be right now.
The extra time for Outward 2’s Early Access launch definitely seems like the right move, although such a sudden turnaround must’ve left a sour taste for some of the franchise’s most dedicated fans, who were expecting to be fully immersed in the world of Aurai this summer. At least it’s unlikely that Outward 2 will be delayed again, so fingers crossed that it’ll be ready to welcome players in a much better state just a few months from now.
Marvel 1943: Rise Of Hydra

One of the most promising upcoming Marvel titles, Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra made quite an impression with its debut trailer shown back in March 2024. Mixing an intriguing time period and locations like WW2 Paris, iconic characters such as Captain America and Black Panther, stunning UE5-powered visuals with groundbreaking facial animations, and Uncharted’s Amy Hennig at the helm, Rise of Hydra looks like everything single-player Marvel fans have been craving for years. Unfortunately, since 2024, there have been few to no updates regarding the ambitious project aside from multiple delay announcements.
The latest one happened just this past month, when Paramount Games Studio senior vice president Shawn Kittelsen said that Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra will launch in 2027 at the earliest. Kittelsen highlighted the importance of reaching the needed levels of quality and the team’s willingness to take the extra time required. While definitely encouraging, it’s also quite disappointing for Marvel fans, since absolutely no new material has been released by the team for over two full years. Hopefully, Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra will be worth all the wait and will blow us away sometime next year.
