Dead Space creator Glen Schofield has decided it’s time to walk away from game development, or at least “the day-to-day work of making them. Thus concludes a career which kicked off all the way back in the early 90s, and saw Schofield work on games ranging from Disney World racing to Call of Duty and The Callisto Protocol. The latter will now go down as the developer’s last game, provided he hasn’t got any surprise un-retirements up his sleeves.
Schofield made his announcement via a video on LinkedIn, short among some nicely pictuesque hills and amid the sounds of nature, like he’s made this decision mid-hike and doesn’t want to hold off on telling the world. I poke fun, but to be fair the alternative would’ve been sitting on a chair in an unnervingly tidy room, which would’ve unavoidably come with the vibes of a celebrity reading some kids a bedtime story.
“After 35 years of making games and directing them, running teams, it’s time for me to officially retire from the day-to-day work,” Schofield said. “To the fans, man you’ve supported me. You let mine and my teams’ games into your homes. You told me when I was good and you told me when I wasn’t so good, but you made me better.”

Speaking to his industry peers and colleagues, expressed his gratitude for having “had a front row seat to one of the greatest creative explosions in history”. He went on to add: “This is an amazing industry with so many talented people, and I know times are tough right now, but, man, the future is really, really bright. I wish you all, the next generation of game makers, the best of luck. Explore, experiment, enjoy and don’t forget that the most important thing is the idea.”
