Player expectations have changed too. A good-looking game is no longer enough. People want smooth gameplay, smart enemies, realistic characters, and stories they will remember for years. Small bugs that were ignored years ago now receive heavy criticism online.
Sequels have become even harder to develop. Every new game has to improve on the last one. Players expect bigger maps, better graphics, stronger stories, and new ideas. Simply repeating old features is no longer enough.
Games like Grand Theft Auto VI, The Witcher 4, Marvel’s Wolverine, and The Elder Scrolls VI show how much pressure developers face. Fans expect these games to set new standards. Reaching that level takes time.
Testing is another reason for delays. Modern games launch on different consoles and PC hardware. Developers must make sure everything works properly before release. Fixing problems early is much better than launching a game that is full of bugs.
