Moon Studios built its reputation on demanding precision — the Ori games taught a generation of players that movement itself could be a form of expression. No Rest for the Wicked applies that philosophy to the action-RPG genre, and its full 1.0 release is finally arriving after more than two years in Steam Early Access.

The game places you as a Cerim, a holy warrior dispatched to the crumbling island of Isola Sacra at the worst possible moment: a king is dead, his untested son has taken the crown, and a plague not seen for a thousand years is corrupting everything in its path. The setting is medieval, but the visual language is something else entirely — Moon Studios uses a hand-painted aesthetic that gives every environment the density of illuminated manuscript art, built at the level of individual design decisions rather than assembled from texture libraries. It is one of the most visually distinctive games in the action-RPG genre.

Where most games in the souls-adjacent space define themselves through stamina management and punishment loops, No Rest for the Wicked anchors its combat in weight and spatial reasoning. Different weapon classes change how your character occupies the screen — the arc of a swing, the cost of recovery, how much the ground beneath your feet matters when an enemy charges. Enemy patterns are designed to be read, not outlasted. That distinction is what separates Moon Studios’ approach from the genre conventions it will inevitably be compared against.

The 1.0 release is not a light update. Moon Studios has built more than 60 hours of new content onto the early access foundation: 15-plus hand-crafted regions, a new horde mode, expanded weapons, new bosses, and a reimagined class system. Critically, 1.0 closes the story arc that early access players have been navigating since 2024, with new cinematic sequences completing the narrative that was left deliberately open. Cross-play and cross-save work between PC and PlayStation 5 from day one.

The path here was not linear. When No Rest for the Wicked launched on Steam in April 2024, reviews landed at Mixed — the visual style and combat core drew genuine praise, but performance issues frustrated enough players to drag ratings down. Moon Studios responded with three major content updates — The Crucible, The Breach, and The Breach Refined — that collectively rebuilt significant parts of the experience. By June 2026, when the 1.0 launch was confirmed at a Sony State of Play, Steam sentiment had climbed to 87 percent positive across more than 24,000 reviews. That trajectory — difficult beginning, sustained development, earned credibility — is consistent with how the studio handled the Ori games, now applied at a larger and more complex scale.

The October 2026 launch covers PC and PlayStation 5 only. Xbox Series X/S and Nintendo Switch 2 versions are confirmed but will arrive at a later, unannounced date, leaving players on those platforms without a timeline. The 87 percent Steam approval rating also reflects a self-selected early access audience that followed the game through two years of updates — the 1.0 launch will be the first encounter for a much larger audience unfamiliar with the game’s evolution, and first impressions at full release may differ from the gradual experience that built that rating.

No Rest for the Wicked 1.0 releases October 30, 2026 on PC via Steam and PlayStation 5, with Early Access copies upgrading automatically. Xbox Series X/S and Nintendo Switch 2 release windows have not been announced.
