Dawn of War 4 has been delayed to the tail-end of this year, so the developers at King Art games can “further refine the experience ahead of launch.”

Initially scheduled for a launch on the 17th September, the game will now be released to the public on the 3rd December. Those who own the Commander Edition will be able to hop in a little earlier on the 30th November.

The reason given for this delay according to a press release announcing the delay comes down to some needed polish. The press release reads that this additional development time will be spent: “focusing on performance optimisation, bug fixing, gameplay polish, and incorporating additional feedback from recent community playtesting.”

As part of this delay, an updated post-launch update road map has been released. While exact release dates have yet to be announced, crusade mode and the game’s first map pack is scheduled to come out in early 2027. Lord Ahmnok’s will come to Last Stand and Crusade alongside a second map pack a little later, while the Blood Raven story prologue will come just ahead of Spring.

After Spring, the third map pack will be released alongside a mission editor, with a massive story expansion called Aftermath set to release with a new faction in summer 2027.

To fill the time left absent by this shifted release schedule, more battle reports and sneak peeks at the game will be released in the coming months. So, it’s not all bad news. Both versions of the game are also now available to pre-order at a ten percent discount, so there’s a chance to save some cash too if you fancy it.

This also pushes Dawn of War 4 further away from a truly stacked month. In September it was due to content with Marvel’s Wolverine, Onimusha: Way of the Sword, Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave, Blood of the Dawnwalker, Silent Hill: Townfall and more. So perhaps by falling back, it’ll gain the advantage. That’s a very RTS way of thinking about it.
