Epic Games recently did an AMA (Ask me anything) in the community Discord server, confirming that a Linux / SteamOS version of the Epic Games Store is coming. I’ll file this in the “I’ll believe it when I see” it folder…
It seems there’s finally a big enough market for them to actually do it. We don’t know if this means Fortnite will actually get supported on Linux, because we’re still waiting on those tens of millions of users. You can use the officially supported GeForce NOW app for that until then.
In the Discord AMA, a user posed the question: “Has there been any new plans about a Linux version of the launcher”, where an actual Epic Games developer replied to note it would be “soon” but not for the preview release of the upcoming Epic Games Store overhaul.

We also saw recently that Epic Games were hiring a Security Engineer to champion Linux anti-cheat, so it seems they have some much wider plans for Linux support overall.
Even though we have tools like the Heroic Games Launcher, Lutris and others to get Epic Games Store titles on Linux – official direct support is always important because it shows to game developers and gamers that Linux is a proper platform for gaming.
Things are looking good, especially with GOG confirming to GamingOnLinux that work is in progress for a Linux version of GOG Galaxy too.
