Mojang Studios has officially announced that Minecraft Dungeons 2 is in development with plans to launch this fall.

The developer behind the ever-evolving sandbox phenomenon took to Minecraft Live March 2026 to announce that its top-down dungeon-crawling spinoff is finally getting a sequel for PC, Nintendo Switch, Switch 2, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X | S. While a release date was not announced, eager players can add it to their wishlists starting today.

“A hero’s work is never done!” an official description on its Steam page says. “Disorder is brewing, and the world stands before a threat unlike any other. A new danger is growing in power, ready to descend upon the land and unleash mayhem.

“Return to the world of Minecraft Dungeons in an all‑new action RPG adventure, brimming with high‑stakes encounters, thrilling challenges, and never‑before‑seen locations, as you set out to save a world in crisis. Will you and your allies prevail against the forces of evil and save the day once more?”

The original Minecraft Dungeons delivered an action-focused twist for the Minecraft universe when it launched for PC, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One in May 2020. Although it only managed to land in 15th place for that month’s top-selling games, players gravitated to its Diablo-like gameplay over time.

Following a number of free updates, including one that added crossplay, and multiple expansion packs, Mojang ended development on Minecraft Dungeons in 2023. In a note to fans at the time, the studio declared that the project had “exceeded our wildest dreams” after reaching 25 million players.

Today’s Minecraft Dungeons 2 announcement only offers a tease for how Mojang will expand on this corner of its blocky universe. For now, it’s unclear when additional updates, including a first look at gameplay, will arrive, but with its release date planned for sometime in the near future, it shouldn’t be too long before Mojang has more to share.

Minecraft Dungeons 2 will release at an unspecified point this fall. Until then, you can see what we thought of the original game in our 7/10 review. You can also check out everything announced during the March 2026 Minecraft Live 2026 presentation.
