Finding ammo early is quite scarce in Marathon. You can burn through five to six stacks of ammo in a single run, but struggle to find even more to sustain your runs. Free loadouts aren’t too friendly either since they only give a couple of ammo stacks per run.

Here’s how you can get more ammo and actually sustain bringing several stacks of ammo in every run in Marathon.

With the game’s UI not being so perfect and the tutorial barely covering the basics, most players will overlook finding out that you can actually buy ammo from the armory.

When you accept your first contract and unlock the CyberAcme faction, go to the Armory tab on the upper-right corner. Select CyberAcme and navigate through the shop. Since the tutorial tells you about the sponsored kits, the weapons and ammo tend to get overlooked.

Look at the ammo section of the armory page and buy the stacks of ammo you need. This can get expensive really quickly if you tend to bring more than five or six stacks of ammo in every run.

If you are consistently extracting, you shouldn’t have problems buying ammo for your runs. However, if you lose every now and then, you might need to sustain your supplies by using sponsored kits and running a few quick runs in the Perimeter, or whichever map you feel confident running successfully.

Even if you extract quickly without filling up your inventory, extracting the loadout, a few items, and consumables should help you get started (or get back up from extraction-shooter poverty). Doing a few successful sponsored kit runs should give you enough credits to sustain your ammo for your intense runs where you go “heavy” on your equipment.

Apart from just buying ammo, looking for ammo caches scattered around the map, or fighting elites or commanders who drop their weapons (and ammo) should give you a few rounds as well. However, the most underrated way to get more ammo is picking up the Unstable Gunmetal, which is found in very specific areas like the Station in Perimeter.

Unstable Gunmetal is used as barter to get some ammo, so don’t sell them. A good tip is to read through the tooltips of these salvage-type materials, like the Unstable Gunmetal, and find out their usage. They don’t sell for a lot of credits, but bartering them may even get you more credits in the long run. If you want more tips, here’s a beginner’s progression guide to Marathon to help you on your journey.
