The Coordinate Datapad event can be one of the easiest and most lucrative in Marathon. Here’s how it works.

When wandering around Marathon, you can sometimes find decommissioned UESC bots with a Coordinate Datapad item next to them. If you do come across one, you would do well to pick it up, as there’s a cache of solid loot at the end of that rainbow.

Check out our MARATHON INTERACTIVE MAPS.

How to complete Coordinate Datapad events in Marathon

You’ll find Coordinate Datapads next to broken, sparking UESC bots every now and again, especially on Perimeter. If you pick it up, you’ll start the event that leads to a multi-container loot cache somewhere on the map.

As soon as you pick up your first Datapad, the second will be marked on both your HUD and the in-run map. Run or fight your way to the second Datapad, and the coordinates for the loot cache will then appear on your map and HUD.

Bring both Coordinate Datapads to the Cache location, and the console there will activate, causing four or five loot containers to spawn in quick succession.

The larger containers can have everything from valuables to weapons to rare salvage, meds, and more. The smaller containers offer the same, just in smaller amounts.

Unlike the Anomalous Matter event, carrying a Datapad won’t mark you on the map for other crews, but finding both the second item and the cache itself will usually take you to other points of interest on the map. As such, this event can quickly turn into a series of PvP engagements.

I do think Coordinate Datapad Cache events are worth it whenever you find them, as they’re much lower risk than boss encounters, Secured Resource combat challenges, and other high-value loot events.

If you know how to navigate the maps to avoid PvP, or conflict more generally, Datapad Caches are one of the easiest and freest ways to higher-tier loot. That’s especially true in solos where you have more room to maneuver and fewer overall threats to avoid.

John’s been gaming for almost 30 years, starting with Super Mario 64, but his first real love is Final Fantasy. Or Armored Core, depending on how he slept last night. If you want to know where to find an item in a massive open world or how to beat a boss, he can help. They’ve probably kicked his teeth in a few times already. You can normally find him eyes deep in the latest FromSoftware game if he isn’t doing dailies in the half-dozen live service games he plays. He can be found on BlueSky.
