It seems Nintendo isn’t ready to quit on mobile gaming just yet. The Big N has announced a brand-new game for iOS and Android smart devices called Pictonico!. The game launches 28 May with pre-registrations available now.

Pictonico! is described as a free-to-start game that allows you to use photos of family and friends (and pets, maybe?) in minigames. It’s a fun idea, creating zany ways to interact with people you know in everything from zombie attacks to carnival challenges.

The trailer gives a pretty good overview of what you can expect:

So, there you have it. Pictonico! is fast-paced action game not unlike WarioWare. It’s a simple gimmick that might just work – hey, we all have a million photos on our smart devices; why not have fun with them? You can choose the photos you’d like to see in the game or take new ones. Then use those pics to play minigames featuring your friends and family.

The exact costings aren’t available just yet, but you’ll be able to try a few of the comically chaotic minigames for free. Additional volumes will be available for purchase, unlocking up to 80 minigames that range from easy to tricky.

Thankfully, it sounds like photos and videos from the app can be shared. The silly outcomes of each minigame can be saved directly to your device. You’ll be able to save these photos and videos, each with a surprising twist – maybe it’s your bestie strolling down the red carpet or your grandpa doing a ballerina performance. Share these results with your friends and family to see their reaction and (hopefully) laugh together at the results.

Pictonico! launches for Android and iOS smart devices on 28 May and is available for pre-registration via the Google Play Store and App Store now.

Will you be trying out this quirky new app from Nintendo? Let us know in the comments!
